Dear Mother and Family,
An airgraph arrived from you this morning
to say that my first had arrived apparently in less that a month so it works
both ways. Also that £20 arrived in double quick time for which thanks a
lot. I think I’ll start negotiations for
a little bus next leave – may be able to pick up one for £20-25. Thanks a lot for sending the S.E.P. along,
Mom. They’ve always had the best short
stories in the world and they can’t be bought over here. Sounds as though John is having a good time
on Minburra – wonder what the old place looks like these days. Must go rabbit-shooting
there again one day.
The highlight this week was our crew dinner
in
Scunthorpe
about 10 miles from here. These crew dinners are a regular occurrence with us now – about once a month. The latest addition to the crew, which is now
7 strong, is our Engineer, Bert Jowett from
Lancashire
. He’s the chap who does all my work for me
while I just sit back and gaze with interest about me. It’s a great life! It was a good show this
dinner, and was followed by “X” noggins of beer and a dance which we left still
in full swing around
12 o’clock
. Went into
Doncaster
to see Gwen Lunn last night and after the pictures we
ran into “Bing” Crosby from Seacliff, who is not far from us now. He sends his congrats. to Margaret and his best wishes to all of you. Should bump into him again soon as we will probably be
around these parts for some time now. It’s getting mighty close to lunch
time, now, Mum, so I’ll close soon. I had written to Grandma Moody some time
ago but apparently it has not arrived, so please tell her I will write an
airgraph soon and that I’m sorry the other one didn’t arrive – and thank Aunty
Marie for her airgraph too – replying soon. Give them my love and best wishes and the same to all at home
Bags of Love to all from Sid xxxx
